Oman Scholars Programme
Oman Scholars Programme (OSP) is a program dedicated to providing a comprehensive and an enriching educational journey for our candidates, guiding them towards becoming Oman Scholars, also known as “Ruwad Oman” (Which is translated as Oman Scholars). Oman Scholars is a prestigious designation awarded to the candidates who have successfully passed all three phases of Oman Scholar’s Programme and were awarded full International Scholarships. The scholarships are sponsored by different governmental and private entities in Oman and administered by Takatuf Oman to enroll top candidates in some of the world’s top boarding schools and universities, including globally renowned institutions.
This journey is not just about academic excellence; it is about creating a network of alumni who leave a lasting impact on the Programme and each other, fostering enduring connections and a sense of belonging to a supportive community that extends far beyond the Programme itself.
Oman Scholars Programme is intricately structured into three main phases, each designed to contribute uniquely to the development and success of our scholars.
How to Apply
- The criteria for eligibility and critical dates are published here each year.
- Application to become a one of Oman Scholars must be made using the online application form published on the website.
- All required fields of information must be completed and the required documents must be uploaded.
- Applicants with completed applications will be called for a testing day and location that will be communicated to them. They will be evaluated using tests to assess English language proficiency and preparation for learning at a tertiary level.
- There will be a written element in the selection process in addition to an interview.
- All assessments will be in English.
- This process leads to identifying students who will join the Enrichment Programme in competition for international scholarships.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
In order to be eligible to apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- The Programme is available to Omani nationals who are currently registered in grade 11 (or equivalent to the other international education systems. Example: AS in the A level curriculum and IB 1 in the IB curriculum).
- To be considered for the Programme, the student must complete the application process in English and upload all required documents. Incomplete applications or those not submitted in English will not be considered.
- To be eligible to apply, the student must have achieved an overall average of 75% or above and a score of 75% or above in English in the first semester of Grade 11 as evident in the transcript.
Enrichment Programme
- After the process of assessment and selection, Phase 1 of the competition for an international scholarship takes place in Oman. If you are offered and accept a seat in the Enrichment Programme, you will start with a 3-4 week Summer Residential Programme (SRP).
- This will be a great opportunity for you to develop your 21st century skills and prepare to become a successful student and future employee. After you have completed the SRP, you will continue to submit assignments as part of the Enrichment Programme (approximately 2 assignments per month for 4 months).
- In February of the following year, you will be required to attend a short Winter Workshop after which you will have completed the Enrichment Programme.
If you are among the top performing students, you will be invited to a personal interview, as the final element in competing for the international scholarship. Your performance in the entire Enrichment Programme will decide whether you qualify to be offered an international scholarship or not. - If you do not qualify for an international scholarship, you will still be recognised as an Oman Scholar of that year, and you will join scholars in the Takatuf Scholars Programme Alumni Network (TSPAN).
The International Scholarship Phase
The International Scholarship supports attendance at an international boarding school for two years. This will prepare you for the rigour of applying to and attending leading universities. By the end of year two at the boarding school, you must have an offer of admission to a top ranked university.
The scholarship is then extended to have you attend a top leading university for four years culminating in a first degree.
Throughout the six-year international scholarship, you will receive extensive support at multiple levels:
- The Programme will monitor your academic and personal development.
- You will receive support from the boarding school and university.
- You will also receive a monthly allowance and other annual allowances to cover your tuition, travel, clothing, accommodation, healthcare and other expenses.
